Do you use reference tracks for the master before THE master or do you just wait until your ear say it sounds proper? If so, what was the last tracks you referenced?
I generally reference the mastered version of last mix I did that I liked. That's the most reliable comparison I could make.
I generally use 'Splitting An Atom' too, which is probably the most translatable mix I ever did. It sounds the same wherever I hear it. Although, 14 years later, I still wish I'd added half a dB of 5.5kHz to the snare drum or drum buss, for a tiny bit more bite. I should probably let go of that now.
Hey Ott! Hello from Colorado! Have seen you and your band numerous times and your groove is super inspirational to me! A question, por favor: When you play live with the All Seeing I, how do you handle the drums? More specifically, does Matt play along to your programmed kick-snare-hihat patterns or does he play to a click? I am curious as to what we hear when we are in the audience - do we hear Matt playing in addition to and over the programmed drum parts, or do you just drop out the programmed drums, allowing him to play along with a click but basically playing his own variation of the beats? Thank you!Ott responded on 03/08/2016 Next question
