I'm trying to understand phasing issues a little better after having a conversation with someone who either knew much more than me or had no idea what he was talking about. When you are performing are you using mono or stereo tracks? Are they premastered or do you use a masterchain for ableton live?
There are a lot of bullshitters about. "Phase issues" don't really arise with electronic music. Stuff either sounds good or it doesn't.
Phase issues arise when dealing with multi-microphone recordings, like drum kits or orchestras, and sensible mic placement is the key.
Read and understand this article:
I always play stereo tracks. I don't use any buss processing in Ableton Live.
Could you please shed some light on enhancing the quality of the drums section in the production? Say from, which sound libraries to go for, tweaking tips for individual components such as the kick and snare and most importantly on how to maintain frequencies from cutting each other out, especially with gear as limited as just a laptop. Spaniards?! No, spunions!
Wanted to thank you again for playing for us in Portland, Maine! And for talking to us after the show and giving us a photo op (they came out ridiculous but you might find them entertaining :P)
I have so many questions but I'll try to keep them brief!
#1. Is there any chance we might see a CD set in the future?
#2. Skylon shirts?! I'd definitely descend upon both of those with absolute joy.
#3. Unit Delta Plus - the numbers at the end holy crap I've been trying to decipher this for ages WHAT DOES IT MEAN?! Could you drop any hints or anything?
Love you Ott. You are the man.
