Could you please shed some light on enhancing the quality of the drums section in the production? Say from, which sound libraries to go for, tweaking tips for individual components such as the kick and snare and most importantly on how to maintain frequencies from cutting each other out, especially with gear as limited as just a laptop. Thank you for your time
A laptop is in NO WAY limited. I made my first records with an Atari 1040 STE with 2mb RAM and 1.44mb floppy disks.
By comparison, even a cheap laptop in 2017 is many, MANY times more powerful and capable than the 500 mHz PC I used to make Blumenkraft, Skylon and Mir.
There's no way I can explain how to make drums sound good in 1000 characters. In the simplest terms possible, just fuck with them until you have what you want and don't give up until you do.
And compress the shit out of everything.
Practice really hard every day and in a couple of years it'll all come together.
1. What analogue synthesizer would you recommend for someone who is new to synthesis.
2. Reason or ableton?
3. And how exactly one makes great music? Cause you seem to know it :)
I'm trying to understand phasing issues a little better after having a conversation with someone who either knew much more than me or had no idea what he was talking about. When you are performing are you using mono or stereo tracks? Are they premastered or do you use a masterchain for ableton live?Ott responded on 06/23/2017
