Dear Ott, I am a fan of most of your work (esp your 3 albums)
I was wondering what you studied(and where). What do you think helped achieve such a level of perfection in your work beyond hard work ofc

A

I left school at 15 with no qualifications whatsoever and got a job moving furniture. With my first month's wages I bought a Roland SH-101 and began my studies there.

Once I had mastered that I bought a Korg Poly 61 and then a Korg DDM-110 drum machine. Then an Arion Flanger pedal and then a Boss DSD-2 sampling delay pedal.

While my friends were all out drinking, fucking and playing football I was shut in my room sampling snare drums from Steve Winwood cassettes and trying to make the SH-101 sequencer synchronise to a trigger-pulse from the drum machine's cowbell output.

If I am any good at what I do [and I'm nowhere near as good as I'd like to be] it is because I have spent every day since listening intently to sound [not just music] and trying to understand what it is made of and how it relates to my mood.
