Is it true that you loathe the metric system?

I loathe everything so, yes.

Being British I live in a curious twilight zone of metric/imperial because, although we officially went metric in 1965, our hearts were never really in it. Consequently we buy fruit in kilos and pounds, marijuana in ounces and grammes, measure distance and speed in miles and mph but measure wood in millimetres, inches and feet.

It can be confusing to anyone born before colour tv was invented but most of us are quite adept at converting mm to in [25.4] or lbs to kilos [2.2].

In the main I'm most thankful that we drive on the correct side of the road and know how to prepare a cup of tea that doesn't taste like a wino pissed in it.
