What do you like to use hardware compressors for and what do you like to use software compressors for?
Software compressors are great for transparently controlling the dynamic range of a sound with the minimum of unwanted artefacts. They can add character but rarely make a sound feel 'finished'.
Hardware compressors tend to be less transparent but almost always impart a quality I can only describe as 'finishedness'.
Do you use hardware compressors? Are they worth having in the digital age? Could you recommend a good hardware/software compressor? So many to choose from :/Ott responded on 02/20/2012 Next question
Could you outline how you made the vocoded vocal at the begining of 'Aubergine'? The carrier source, how the pitch was tracked, how it was processed? It sounds quite 'organic' for a vocoded sample.Ott responded on 02/20/2012
