Speaking of visualizing sound, how about tasting it. Being a chef/musician I think of a track in flavors & textures. Bass= fats, treble=acidic,spices=flavor,
garnishes=effects. textures=smooth,gritty

Yes, I find many relevant parallels between cooking and mixing records. Both disciplines are about combining different ingredients in varying proportions and different ways to create a cohesive and palatable whole.

I am a terrible cook though - I tend to over flavour things and over-rely on a few proven ingredients to get me through. Don't know what that says about my mixing.
