After a long night of mixing, I'll be satisfied with a mix; but when I listen to it in the morning it "sounds" completely different (morning ears vs night ears). How do you deal with this phenomenon?
By turning it to my advantage.
The first few listens of the day, with fresh ears and perception, are the most valuable so I will work to finish the mix in the evening, get it as far as I can and then go to bed.
Any shortcomings are 100x more apparent in the morning than they are after a long session so when I come in the next day I will use that shift in perception to note and adjust whatever needs adjusting.
If I can't finish it in the first ten plays I know there is another days work to do.
