Dear Ott, as a mixing engineer how did you manage to not go crazy listening to the same songs 100x each on repeat?
That's like asking a chef if he goes crazy pan frying a duck breast for the 500th time.
Every mix is unique and the act of listening to each song endlessly is all part of the process.
It becomes hypnotic after a while and you enter a trance-like state where you become intensely familiar with every single detail of the recording and know exactly which parts you want to change and how.
When the mix is done I don't want to hear the track for at least six months and it takes about this long for me to be able to hear it as a piece of music again, rather than a piece of work to be adjusted.
Any chance to see OTT and the All Seeing Eye in Europe?Ott responded on 07/02/2012 Next question
Do you ever go out of your way to get desired sounds for a track; or do you only use what is in the confines of your studio? (eg. camping in the forest for 3 days just to record chipmunk mating calls)Ott responded on 07/02/2012
