How would you recommend connoisseurs of music who know nothing of its theory or practice go about understanding and beginning to create music themselves? Any tips, starting points, or first songs? thx

Start by listening.

Learn to hear what music is made of and establish how and why it affects you.

Choose the musical instrument which attracts you most profoundly and learn it inside out. It could be a flute, a piano, a synthesiser, a tape recorder, a mixing console.

If you aren't consumed by a passion to play it, to the exception of everything else, food, sleep, sex, you haven't found your calling.

Do it every day, forever.
